Credit: Pixel-Shot/Shutterstock DoT partners with private firm for 5G/ORAN testing The technical arm of the department of telecommunications (DoT), the telecommunication engineering centre (TEC), partnered with Indian product engineering and manufacturing company VVDN Technologies for 5G/Open RAN testing. This public-private partnership (PPP) will facilitate registered startups, innovators, and MSMEs working in the field of ORAN to get their products tested at the existing lab of VVDN at Gurugram. It could be tested for interoperability among ORAN components (RU/DU/CU) from different vendors along with radio conformance, protocol, and interface testing as per defined ORAN standards at a subsidized tariff decided with mutual consent among MoU partners. The validation of this PPP is five years. The product offered for testing will be certified by TEC. This test certification ecosystem will accelerate research innovation in domestic design and manufacturing and make India the design testing and certification hub of Asia. Operational technology a lucrative target for cybercriminals With digital transformation on the rise, it’s now imperative for organizations to start rethinking and revamping their cybersecurity strategy, especially towards operational technology. OT has emerged as a lucrative target for cybercriminals, according to a study by Deloitte. Even though IT−OT integration has several benefits, it brings many cybersecurity challenges. OT assets that are by-and-large complex, still work on obsolete versions of operating systems and software, making the OT environment even more vulnerable when converged with IT. The number of attacks on organizations with OT systems has been on the rise. The use of legacy systems, lack of proper network segmentation, absence of robust governance, security policies, and monitoring, and unsecure remote access are leading to increased cyber vulnerabilities. The study suggests that there should be a specialized OT cybersecurity team mapped to the CISO function to encourage better measures, controls, and monitoring. Joint governance with senior IT leadership can provide the appropriate attention to OT systems and help better correlate and assess the impact of cyber risks on business operations. NTT launches its new hyperscale data center in Mumbai Technology services company NTT Global Data Centers and Cloud Infrastructure has announced the launch of its new hyperscale data center campus in Mumbai. Hyperscale data centers outperform and are larger than enterprise data centers with at least 5,000 servers over 10,000 square feet. NTT’s NAV1A data center is spread across 400,000 –square feet and will offer the capacity to host 5,000 racks and support over 30 MW of IT load. This is part of the $2 billion the company had earmarked in 2020 to scale its infrastructure facilities. With this, NTT now has 12 data centers across the country including Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, and Chennai with a facility power capacity of 220 MW. “…the recent initiatives by the government of India, especially policies regarding data localization, and digitization of services across different verticals, we’ve witnessed a sharp rise in demand for data centers, cloud, remote-working, and cyber security products and services,” Masaaki Moribayashi, president and board director at NTT said in a company statement. India celebrates National Technology Day Marking India’s progress in the field of technology, May 11th was celebrated as National Technology Day in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah expressed their greetings to all scientists, researchers, and engineers involved in the field of science and technology. “Our progress in the field of science and technology under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has been rapid and his policies have laid the ground through policies such as Digital India and the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign,” Shah said. At the National Technology Day 2022 event, Union minister Jitendra Singh gave awards to seven startups for their work in areas like quantum data security, AI-powered robot for electronic assembly, cryogenic technologies, and cybersecurity systems. Uber to hire 500 engineers in India Uber is looking to hire engineers, data scientists, and program managers by the end of 2022 for its Bangalore and Hyderabad tech centers. According to reports, the app-based mobility service provider hired 250 engineers in 2021. Uber currently has a 1000-member tech team in Hyderabad and Bangalore.
